Abstract
The study Correlation between Parenting Styles, Attachment Types, and Relationship Quality in University Students aimed to analyze the relationship among parenting styles, attachment types, and couple relationship quality in university students. The sample consisted of 500 psychology students from Universidad Católica Luis Amigó, selected through convenience sampling. The research followed a quantitative, empirical - analytical, non - experimental, correlational, and cross - sectional design. Data collection empl oyed the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI), the Parenting Styles Scale, and the ECR - R (Experiences in Close Relationships – Revised). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS, beginning with a pilot study to validate instruments via Cronbach’s alpha, followed by descriptive statistics for sociodemographic variables and Pearson correlations to assess relationships among key variables. Results indicated that early parenting experiences significantly shape affective bonds and couple relationship quality, though th eir influence is currently moderated by sociocultural and technological factors. The democratic parenting style was associated with secure attachment and stable relationships, whereas permissive and neglectful styles were linked to anxiety, insecurity, and emotional distance. These findings align with prior research emphasizing the family’s role in emotional development while highlighting the increasing relevance of contemporary social and cultural dynamics.
