Abstract
The "sons of bitches" complex arises from the shame that Colombians felt when they were exposed during the colonization process. Due to the mixture of races between Indians and Spaniards, the Creole child boasted about the father and despised the mother, creating a blood illegitimacy because he was neither Indian nor Spanish. This led to vanity, that is, the imitation of foreign ideas, qualities, models, and constitutions. According to Fernando González, the main consequence of the "sons of bitches" complex is the lack of philosophy, since without self-awareness there is no philosophy as the author conceived it: as the manifestation of a people with which each citizen identifies. Consequently, education is the primary solution for the author to counter the "sons of bitches" complex. This education is not seen in the traditional way but rather as one where the pedagogue is a midwife, meaning that he helps others to find themselves, since each one has their own method within them. Thus, the school's mission is to instigate the development of free personality. Similarly, leftism, nationalism, and liberalism are treated by the author as the solution, understanding them not as a political inclination but as the means by which one acquires an awareness of oneself as a people.
