Abstract
This study examines the influence of theatrical practice on the mental health of members of the “Laboratorio Teatral de Itagüí,” using a qualitative, phenomenological approach grounded in humanistic psychology and Gestalt therapy. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five participants to explore their experiences, motivations, and perceptions of theater as a space for personal growth. Findings indicate that theatrical participation fosters self-awareness, emotional expression, and subjective transformation. Nonetheless, challenges emerged regarding group cohesion and commitment, revealing tensions between individual artistic pursuits and collective construction. Overall, the theater functions as a humanizing device that promotes psychological well-being, strengthens meaningful bonds, and provides a symbolic avenue for emotional processing, while highlighting the need to reinforce shared purpose and group belonging.
