Abstract
This study focused on understanding the digital configuration and the defense mechanisms present in role-playing video game players, which emerge during the creation of their avatars, conceived as extensions of the body and the unconscious. Through methodological triangulation — semistructured interviews, the Human Figure Test, and the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) — and from a phenomenological approach, correspondences were analyzed between the player’s discourse and the symbolic manifestations found in their graphic representations and apperceptive interpretations. The results suggested that, beyond entertainment, the avatar functions as a space of psychic negotiation where desires, conflicts, and defense mechanisms converge to reconfigure identity. Thus, the video game ceases to be merely a playful scenario and becomes a laboratory of contemporary subjectivities: a place where the body reinvents itself, protects itself, and narrates itself through the language of code.
